3:1 凯撒提庇留执政第十五年，般雀比拉多作犹太总督，黑落德作加里肋亚分封侯，他的兄弟斐理伯作依突勒雅和特辣曷尼地方的分封侯，吕撒尼雅作阿彼肋乃分封侯，
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,
3:2 亚纳斯和盖法作大司祭时，在荒野中有天主的话，传给匝加利亚的儿子若翰。
during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert.
3:3 他遂来走遍约旦河一带地方，宣讲悔改的洗礼，为得罪之赦。
He went throughout (the) whole region of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,
3:4 正如依撒意亚先知预言书上记载的：『在荒野中有呼号者的声音：你们当预备上主的道路，修直他的途径！
as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one crying out in the desert: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
3:5 一切深谷要填满，一切山岳丘陵要铲平，弯曲的要修直，崎岖的要开成坦途!
Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth,
3:6 凡有血肉的，都要看见天主的救援。』
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'"
3:7 于是，他对那些前来要受他洗礼的群众说：「毒蛇的种类!谁指教你们逃避那就要来的忿怒?
He said to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
3:8 那么，结与悔改相称的果实吧!你们心里不要以为：我们有亚巴郎为父。我给你们说：天主能从这些石头中给亚巴郎兴起子孙来。
Produce good fruits as evidence of your repentance; and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father,' for I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
3:9 斧子已放到树根上了；凡不结好果子的树，必被砍倒，投入火中。」
Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire."
3:10 群众向他说：「那么，我们该作什么呢?
And the crowds asked him, "What then should we do?"
3:11 他答复他们说：「有两件内衣的，要分给那没有的；有食物的，也应照样做。」
He said to them in reply, "Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise."
3:12 税吏也来受洗，并问他说：「师傅，我们该作什么呢?」
Even tax collectors came to be baptized and they said to him, "Teacher, what should we do?"
3:13 他向他们说：「除给你们规定的外，不要多征收!」
He answered them, "Stop collecting more than what is prescribed."
3:14 军人也问说：「我们该作什么呢?」他向他们说：「不要勒索人，也不要敲诈；对你们的粮饷应该知足!」
Soldiers also asked him, "And what is it that we should do?" He told them, "Do not practice extortion, do not falsely accuse anyone, and be satisfied with your wages."
3:15 那时，百姓都在期待(默西亚)，为此，人人心中推想：或许若翰就是默西亚。
Now the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Messiah.
3:16 若翰便向众人说道：「我固然以水洗你们，但是比我强的一位要来，就是解他的鞋带，我也不配。他要以圣神和火洗你们。
John answered them all, saying, "I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire.
3:17 木锨已放在他手中，他要扬净自己的禾场，把麦粒收在仓内；至于糠秕，却要用不灭的火焚烧。」
His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."
3:18 他还讲了许多别的劝言，给百姓传报喜讯。
Exhorting them in many other ways, he preached good news to the people.
3:19 分封侯黑落德却为了自己兄弟的妻子黑落狄雅，并为了黑落德本人所作的一切恶事，受了若翰的指谪，
Now Herod the tetrarch, who had been censured by him because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, and because of all the evil deeds Herod had committed,
3:20 又在一切的恶事上加了这一件：即把若翰囚在监中。
added still another to these by (also) putting John in prison.
3:21 众百姓受洗后，耶稣也受了洗；当他祈祷时，天开了；
After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened
3:22 圣神借着一个形像，如同鸽子，降在他上边；并有声音从天上说：「你是我的爱子，我因你喜悦。」
and the holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."
3:23 耶稣开始传教的时候，大约三十岁，人都以他为若瑟的儿子：若瑟是赫里的儿子，赫里是玛塔特的儿子，
When Jesus began his ministry he was about thirty years of age. He was the son, as was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli,
3:24 玛塔特是肋未的儿子，肋未是默尔希的儿子，默尔希是雅乃的儿子，雅乃是约色夫的儿子，
the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,
3:25 约色夫是玛塔提雅的儿子，玛塔提雅是阿摩斯的儿子，阿摩斯是纳洪的儿子，纳洪是厄斯里的儿子，厄斯里是纳革的儿子，
the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,
